Chris, check the filter again. Maybe the tank is cruded up and is continuing to clog the filter. Classic fuel delivery problem. Your running out of fuel at high demand. Check to make sure you don't have any old fuel hose that's swelling shut from the new fuel additives. Where's the pump? Internal? Pick up screen clogged?

So I put on a new filter that is clear,installed the carb back on,and the car will not start. If I pour fuel down the throat of the carb it will run for a few seconds,and then die. I pulled a fuel line off of the pump last night,and turned the engine over to see if the pump was working. It is pumping,but I am not getting fuel to the carb for some reason. I know this because it seems that pumping the pedal doesn't result in a spray from the accelerator pump. There are two lines that come off of the pump that feed the carb. One goes to the bowl,and the other the accelerator pump,and then returns from there. I would think that with fuel getting to the accelerator pump I would be getting a squirt of fuel when pumping the pedal,but I am not. Any ideas? Stuck needle and float? But why no fuel spray from the acc pump?

You might want to disconnect the fuel line at the carb, hotwire the pump, and see if anything comes out.

In that case, you'd need to substitute "crank the motor" for "hotwire the pump." But I'd still test the pump directly.

So I pulled the carb off again today,and took it apart. I found that the float was jammed in the up position. It is because of these two hinged copper/brass brackets that can be flipped up by this semi large steel ball that sits in a groove underneath them. It seems that maybe in the course of reassembling the carb the last time that the ball was dislodged and one of these pieces flipped up,and jammed up on the float. This caused the needle to stay in the full up position,and put a dent in the plastic float. It doesn't look like it punctured the float,but I will do a float test in some water tomorrow or next week. My question is what is the function of these pieces of copper/brass and the steel ball? Roll over protection? Accident protection? Can this system be removed? Do you guys think the float level has been compromised by this jamming of the float? Anywhere I can find the proper float level to adjust if needed?

Got the carb back together this week,and back on the car. Fired right up,and seems to be running great!!! No idea what fixed it. I only replaced the fuel filter,but the old one didn't look clogged up at all. For some srange reason the speedometer decided to work again as well. Then it stopped working on a short trip out today,and then worked again on teh return home. Odd I know. It is digital,so maybe that is why it is flakey.

So driving the car tonight it occurs to me. How did this car survive cash for clunkers? Any ideas how in the land of cheap old J-tin,and emissions testing as far back as 75 I think did this one not die a painful death in CA?

Quick question that maybe you guys in the know could answer before I tear into the rear interior panels. I have found that in Australia these cars(sold as Scorpions) came with three point seatbelts in the rear. I would like this added safety for my kids,and have found a guy there that has a spare set of belts. My question is,do you guys think that my car would have the mounting points for these belts already,or will I need to fabricate this? My guess is they are there,but who knows. I don't want to start tearing the car apart and risk messing up the remarkably clean interior of a car that I will have a hard time finding parts for just to see if these mounting points are there. I suppose it is really the only way to truely know though.

I know that car!! I almost bought it a year or so ago from the seller on the JNC website. I had a nice long conversation on the phone with him regarding it. I love the paint scheme,and catholic school girl interior!! In hindsight I really should have bought it as I really like dit in pics. It has had a minor repiar on the rear quarter from a car rolling into it during storage,and I think the bumpers were rusty under the skin,but have been repaired/replaced. Very cool car in my opinion. The trunk lid acts as the radio antenna. Odd way of doing that,but cool I think. I think the seller is half way between Cleveland,and Akron,OH if I remember right.

Not giving up just realized I didn't use it very much this summer. I only put around 1000 miles on it,maybe less. I may even sell my RX-7 as well. I don't drive them much anymore.
