And tonight we'll be the proud owners of a...

    1965 Rambler Marlin.

Sorry for the small pictures - those are from the ad.

ARRRGH! Has there ever been an uglier car made? She just LOVES it.

So, I'm needing some AMC/Rambler love here. What's it going to take to work on this beast? Where can I find a service manual?

And it's not eligible to be a BABE or Challenge car. 1. - She wouldn't allow it. 2. - It cost too much.

Examples of the Rambler Marlin. I suggest dark sunglasses, vomit bags, and a mask for when you are driving it.

Actually, I think it has some style and it certainly unusual!

Look at it this way, take it to a car show and it will be one-of-a-kind

i guess it goes to show that if anything is worth doing, its worth overdoing. who would've though that you could overdo the 60's fastback style

at least it is AMC ugly and not Dodge ugly. The good thing about older cars like that.. they have enough style points and nostalga to make anything look decent

Yeah, I like it in the same way that I like early Chargers. I think they're neat, especially the super-long fastback, but I have no desire to own one. It's a great car for somebody else to have...

Oh come on, at least she's not some cookie cutter Barbie screaming MIATAMIATAMIATAMIATA!!!

Slap her on the butt, compliment her uniqueness and taste; count your blessings.

A sledgehammer and a screwdriver should be all you need to work on it. Except for the body, it's an Ambassador and they made parts for them a million years.

I like it! Sorta a spin on the baracudas of the day. I'd be happy to have it in my driveway.

Look for service manuals on eBay, at swap meets (around here there's always a couple vendors selling shop manuals at the meets) or from dedicated vendors. Two good ones are http://www.autolit.com/ and http://www.autopaper.com/. Be sure to find out if there are several different manuals for the same car; I don't know about AMC but the other brands often had one for the chassis/drivetrain, a second for the body and maybe others yet for the transmission and HVAC system.

Also, check out the Old Car Manual Project page, there may be some information posted there. http://www.tocmp.com/

There certainly has to be a web board or two devoted to AMC owners out there, along with the national owner's club: http://www.amonational.com/

I would rock it....lower it on some multispoke 16's, and it might look better.

theamcforum.com is your new friend. Sweet Marlin, I've always liked those. The Urban Legend goes that the Marlin was supposed to be based on the compact American, but that Rambler's president was a heavy guy, so he wanted it fullsize, and thus it was produced on the full size Ambassador chassis.

Yep! The Rambler was the first one as well. Also, the 57 Rambler Rebel was the fastest production car in the world... except the fuelie 'Vette.

They are peculiar cars. The AMC club folks I've found to generally be very helpful. One of my Fiat buddies wound up with one. In looking at his very-unrestored one in the garage it seemed like some portion of the back quarter/roof joinery was fiberglass(?).

It could be worse...my wife's favorite car is one of these:
