Was just on CL and found an "ad"(?) posted by someone who needs help with a E-34. I advised him/them to come here and register and put this to the experts...but don't know if that will pan out so I'll try to pass along any info.

According to this person, the windows on his car suddenly stopped going up or down, the sunroof stopped working, and the central locking quit all about the same time. Only odd thing noted at the time? A loud CLICK when the locking was tried.

Guy is unwilling to go to a BMW dealer or specialist as he fears a huge repair bill. I figured most folks here would be able to "troubleshoot" this at light speed and even pass along where to get parts, if needed.

    Advice?

fusible link - 525 is under hood, 535 under rear seat would be first place to look beyond basic fuses

Car is a 525 wagon...the poster said he checked the fuses and they were "good". What would the fuseable link look like? Is it like most other cars in that it is in the same "block" as the rest of the fuses.

I sent the poster 2 e-mails directing him to this website...maybe I'll get the mag a "convert"?

Strut tower by the battery - little black box - two heavy wires going in, two heavy wires coming out - under the black cover there are 4 screws and basically two big, open fuse elements (80A). They can break/separate under the screws - so they can look ok on inspection - undo the screws and check for sure.
