I KNEW this would never fly! Came awfully damn close though.

It seems that the F1 event is not going to happen after all. I suspect that also means the end of what looked like an amazing track.

    The article said:

So what will happen to this big, $40 million (that's dollars spent until now and a long way from what is needed for completion) mudhole near Austin? Perhaps the world's nicest RallyCross track? Presumably it could be completed as a less-ambitious, less expensive paved track, attracting lesser racing series, but only NASCAR Sprint Cup would essentially guarantee a profitable product, and Sprint Cup isn't coming to Austin.

You had me at "world's nicest RallyCross track" ...

They have one more week before Bernie officially pulls the plug:

However, it sounds like someone will have to write the check personally as the State of Texas isn't going to front the $25 mil in advance. Of course since it is a new deal, they don't get the "cheap" deal that was made with Full Throttle Productions. Idiot, spoiled rotten business children playing around when they should STFU and get something done.

The have until the Dec 7th meeting of the World Motorsports Council.

My bet is once he finally got his street race with the NYC skyline he said, "Screw Texas."

Just like the NJ F1 race won't happen either. Too much collusion between Tano and Bernie, the track guys deserve to get paid and have an exclusive contract.

The US can't support two F1 races, if I was involved in the Austin project I would've hit the roof about the NJ race.

The US can't support one F1 race. Bernie is a crook, but he's got 3rd world ass monkey's lining up to give him money, so I don't know why we keep trying to pound this square peg through this round hole.

Part of me is sad, part of me is glad, and don't bet your life on the NJ/NYC F1 either as there are a plethora of articles out there with the writing on that wall as well...

The "third world" ass monkeys have all of what used to be our money.

    berkeley that guy! (ecclestone)
considering that we will be moving to austin to serttle down permanently in a few years anyway, I was pretty damn excited that an amazing track like that was going to be there.

they should keep building the track, but perhaps not build it quite as lavish. keep it at FIA standards, and try to get ALMS/Grand Am/NASCAR/V8SC/DTM/Indy to run there, and fill up the rest of the schedule with SCCA/NASA amateur and pro races and club trackdays
