Best friend gave me an old smith tach from an mg today. Matches the gauges in my elcamino perfect. Only problem is that its for a 4cyl. Wondering if theres a way to make it read properly for a v8. Figured that y'all would probably know off the top of your heads.

There are some tachometer adapters you can buy; MSD and Auto Meter both make some as far as I know.

Dakota Digital's is popular: http://www.dakotadigital.com/index.cfm/page/ptype=product/product_id=127/prd127.htm

A popular thing to do on MGB V8 conversions. Here's a how-to for you.

So, back from the grave.

Took the tach apart to do the work after fitting it to the dash. Looks nothing like the one in tbe link.

Its a 1433/01 rvi Smith. Apparently its a points style tach that does not play well with electronic ignition.

Any ideas? Ive got the whole dash laying on the bench right niw. Cheaper is obviously better. Also not opposed to putting sun supertach guts ib it with a good how to.

How about this link?

Are you running a points non-electronic ignition?

Take a look at this. Doug Lawson is the one person I know who seems to be the complete master of LBC electrical issues.

Slight threadjack, does anyone have experience with running an older tach with the Dakota digital unit? I bought one for a project and can't get it to work the stock tach.

Maybe you can swap it with someone with a V-8 version. I would like to believe the 4 cylinder one is a bit rarer given the time it was made.
