Which type of silicone would you reccomend for use with a regular gasket when installing a water pump on an RX-7? The ultra high temp Orangey Permatex stuff or the normal, lower temp Blue stuff?

    Thanks,

    Ray

I use ultra black kind of like zip ties (it works for everything!) but technically ultra grey is probably "best" for a water pump when not using a gasket. Don't take my word for it, read up:

+1. The only real gaskets on our challege Spider was the head gasket and valve cover gaskets. All the rest were the gray stuff- front cover, lower and upper oil pan, intake, etc.

Use a very small bead (the trigger handle helps), hand tighten, wait 10min, and then fully torque. By letting it partially set, it seems to work a little better.

I'd just buy the factory gasket. Works great and lasts forever and not to pricey.

I read a article on replacing a 2nd Gen RX-7 water pump which reccomened using the stock gaskets and silicone. Is this a bad idea?

Use the silicone which can handle the extreme heat of a rotary, much higher temps than a boinger

I used stock gaskets no silicone for my 2nd gen 7. No leaks!

You don't need silicon if you use the stock gasket. I've never had a WP gasket leak in any of my RX7s.

When you guys talk about the stock gaskets sealing perfectly, are we talking the asbestos gaskets or the non-asbestos gaskets? I got some non-asbestos throttle body and intake manifold gaskets for my RX-7s and was planning to use the Permatex copper-colored silicone to seal it all up.
