My new car weighs the passenger every time a passenger gets in the car so it can calibrate the airbags and other safety systems to the passenger.

Told my wife this.

This may be my last post for a while. laugh

Does it give you their weight anywhere?

I had many cars that do that but give you the weight, they just use it to decide whether to activate the passenger airbags or not.

My wife weighs 112lbs so sometimes the airbag in the Outback doesn't think she is there or is a child and turns the airbag off.

In reply to Tom1200 :

No way, I would get it checked out.

The threshold is usually 60 lbs or so.

Reminds me of this story, from the "Moron of the Week" Thread.

This week, I nominate: Myself.

Had the following conversation with a fellow driver at this weekend's autocross:

I'm running start. He pulls up, grinning from ear to ear.

Him: "Just kicked out my passenger and was 2 seconds faster on the last run."

Me: "Good Lord, who was your passenger, Fat Albert?"

Him: "No, my wife."

Me: "Oh"

And here my FR-S seems to think my sandwich needs to put its seatbelt on if I stack one too many slices of lunch meat on it cheeky

@slippery, I usually turn the car off, then back on and it seems to correct itself...........it's done it since we've gotten it and does it about once a year.

If they did this I could see this function being blamed for many a divorce.

I've heard 80 lbs is the usual threshhold but experiences differ wildly!! When you look at how the weight sensors work there is one style of them that's pretty guaranteed to 'drift' in sensitivity over time.
