Funny thing.... In the 917/30 at LeMans Elford tried all through practice to figure out how to start the race in the 917 without spinnning the tires clean off the wheels. He thought he had it down, a balancing act on the clutch and brake. When the green flag dropped though, it all went out the window and he spun the tires all the way to the first corner- still in the lead. Apparently, no matter what he tried on corner exit and shifting into top gear (4th) at roughly 130mph he would lay yards and yards of rubber down as the tires just spun and spun. It seems that 1500hp (reported cough cough) in a 1400lb chassis might be just about right.
