ok so what is everyones thoughts on a cayote powered first gen mazda 6 with a t5 hd and a sn95 irs in the rear. only need to come up with about an extra inch of width if any for the body. tranny tunnel would be easy enough and then only other prob is engine mounts (well i go a welder and steel stock so not a prob) and fuel tank (shouldnt be considered a prob. ok admittedly the steering rack has got me perplexed at the moment but im sure a solution could be found fairly easily.......

By cayote I assume that you are talking about the newer ford modular?

Are you sure the engine will fit? The thing is that the mod-motor V8's are WIDE!

some information on this page http://www.sullivanperformance.com/yvs450/tech/tech1.htm

Routing steering and brakes around that lump may be difficult in that package.

    comparison to a 302

strearing is the prob. and yes. it will fit wierd i know. brakes would be easy. master is tucked off to the side nice and easy. 35.25 inches between shock towers and rails. 35 inches firewal to radiator. height i i dunno but i doubt it much taller if any than the duratec 3.0 thats in there turned sideways now.

The Mazda most likely has pretty flat frame rails up front with the bottom at about 2/3 the height of the stock wheel at ride height. I bet that mod motor rode on a subframe of its own at some point. Joining the two would give you the steering rack, suspension, motor mounts, etc... The rear suspension would be best done by finding a car with a flat top to its rear subframe and joining that to the rear frame rails. Miata subframes are nice, but the power you are going to make might be too much. Supra, SC400, might work. What does the mounting look like for the thunderbird IRS? A solution might be an entire floor/framerail swap from a junk mustang.

At first I thought you said first gen 626. That would be awesome.

brakes id just use oem ms6 brakes and make an adapterbracket for the rear spindle. wieght distribution should remain close to factory 6 spec maybe a lil more rear biased. consider the wiedth of a sn95 cobra is within 1.5 inches over all sn95 irs is my first choice also knowing it can handle the power.

I thought the new 5.0 was a clean sheet design, how does that compare to the old Mod-motor size wise?

everything i hav read is that it is almost identical in dimension to the 4.6 dohc.... it is clean sheat in that no carry over parts but it is really an evolution of the 4.6 dohc and the 5.0 cammer crate motor.
