I have a 1974 Porsche 914 that I have installed a 3.2 Liter 911 engine. It runs great but I would like to put AC in it. I have all the parts but there isn't space in the engine compartment to install the compressor without pounding out space in the firewall which would limit the driver's seat travel. I can't live with that because I am pretty tall. Does anyone know if there is a 12 volt AC compressor on the market? If there is I would probably install that in the front trunk. Any thoughts? Thanks. Thor

There are stand alone EV air conditioners Ebay that look like a window unit without the shell. They might work for your needs.

No kidding, Mr Joshua's onto something. People have been known to use big inverters to run small home A/C units in vans, etc.

    1. Awesome!

    2. Pics please!

    3. Couldn't you just fab up a bracket to move the A/C compressor elsewhere, like to the passenger's side?

Research the "factory" A/C. It was a dealer-installed option and it was in the front truck. I don't know how it worked but it might give you some ideas.

AC? In a 914? Just take the top off!

In reply to DWNSHFT:Thanks for the suggestion but, I actually have the factory (dealer installed) parts. It uses a belt driven compressor on the motor. The condenser and the associated fan it in the front trunk. The kit is designed for the 914-4 which has a whole lot more room in the engine compatment than the 3.2 liter 6 cyl. engine.
