I am doing a bunch of powder coating soon and need some powder.
Gloss black.
Nothing fancy, just regular old gloss black.
Any idea on where to get some cheap? Say a couple pounds? Anyone have any hookups somewhere?
I recall hearing that declaimed powder sucks and to stay from it. True?

Columbia coatings is another good source but I tend to avoid their super high gloss powders as they can be troublesome to work with

If you need it fast, don't order from Caswell Plating- I ordered some clear matte powder from them, and it took a week and a half to receive, with no communication explaining why.
Stop by your local powdercoating place and ask if they'll sell you some.
eastwood seems to have excellent prices, their forums have links to other places that sell it as well. What do you need 2 lbs of powder for?

powder coating lots of brackets for my CB200 and GS550 and some odds and ends. Im known to over estimate material needs... 149sq/ft for a pound of powder i was looking at on powderbythepound. thats a lot of coverage. like a lot a lot.
three pounds max. i can use the rest on odds and ends and car stuff
I was gonna say, I had 4 30 foot sections of railing done in black, and they only used 1.5 pounds. But he also said he swept up about a 1/4 off the floor and will reuse it at a later point in time. Do you have an oven big enough to bake all the parts?

toaster oven as of now, but looking for a decent kitchen oven now.
Tiger-Drylac I used to deal with for the big boxes...but they also sell (or used to) 10 lb boxes and also 3 lb sample packs. Top quality stuff.

Just bought two pounds of motorcycle black from them. it just came in, i ordered late monday. not bad.
Ill waiting for my buddy to get some brackets sand blasted and hopefully next week we will get everything coated.

powder coat is just like regular paint theres thousands of good brands and some cheap ass brand. Some are more chip resistant some are better for abrasion etc. Talk with the suppler and tell them what your doing.
