Cool van! They always had a good bit more snap than the Toyota version which had that weak 3Y? (I think) pushrod motor. On the heat problem: replace the thermostat, it's either not sealing or stuck part way open.

Which way should you go? I'll just drop this here:

Oh man I wish it were 4wd. You can get the Toyota ones that way here in North America but not the Mitsu. I do like the two-tone look though, and may go that way if I get it painted.

Yes, that's from the first Cannonball Run movie from 1981. By 1984 in Cannonball Run II, He was in a Mitsubishi Starion. So between those two movies, he struck a deal with Mitsubishi, because virtually every movie he's been in since then, he's had Mitsubishis.

My B-I-L wants me to put a V8 in the van, and paint it like the Mystery Machine from Scooby Doo. I am on board with the paint, but the idea of a V8 in such a short wheelbase scares me a bit. I was thinking more of a Star Wars Millennium Falcon theme with this originally but the mystery Machine may work as well.

What say you the GRM guru's?

Anyone have any Starion wheels they want to sell? I think they would look great on this oddball van.

The techno/stealth treatment that Clarkson used on his challenge semi would work well on this van.

I prefer to call that the Robocop treatment.

So I got a new windshield installed on Tuesday. Had to pay out of pocket due to no insurance yet, but it was only $170 with my Safelite discount through my employer, and no charge for a mobile install. The installer told me the van was maybe the most odd vehicle he had ever put a windshield in. Very straight forward install but the first windshield he brought was all scratched, and had to wait for another. I almost bought the scratched one from the company just to have as a spare, but I didn't want to spend $75 for a scratched windshield. I may regret that someday.

I called Hagerty about adding it to my policy, but they said it wouldn't normally be a vehicle they would insure, but asked me to email a few pictures so they could have a look at it. I hope they can insure it, but I doubt they will. I guess I will have insure it through my normal insurer and it will be much more expensive.

Where are you? I have a set that I'd probably give away. I'm in Oakland, CA.

So I got the van insured and registered today. Took it for a spin and I do indeed love the thing so far. Very odd driving experience with the wheels being behind/ under you. I need to lower it and get some new wheels/tires. Can crappy tinting be removed from the windows and new stuff put on, or it that stuff on there for life? How about a Maaco paint job? Can they be done well if I get the accessories/trim removed ahead of time?

You can remove old window tint with a razor and some window cleaner. We did at the detail shop I worked out. Just start tearing it off. The razor will help get under the film so you can continue tearing once the strip you have a grip on breaks off. Then, you'll need something to remove the adhesive. Use the window cleaner and voila! Tint removed!

or you can use a garment steamer like I've seen on youtube...

The best thing I've used to get rid of window tint was starting the edge with a razor, and then using "film aid" to aid in releasing the film. 90% of the time it removes everything, every time.
