While we were loving our ramp truck and starting to use it to haul our projects locally and to race and concours events, we were concerned. While the truck ran great, we were getting some clutch slippage and the leak at the rear main seal was getting worse and spraying oil all the way back to the cabinets.

While we …

Shift lever is impressive.
Did you find anything interesting in the motor/trans?

Tim,

I think I am being stupid but I go to the link looking for the rest of the story and all I get is exactly what is in the post. I assume it is my failure to properly navigate. What am I doing wrong?

The article seems to be missing some text and pictures, but I'm always struck by just how compact a manual transfer case really is when it's outside of the car.

That's not a transfer case.

Looks to be a Muncie SM420 or New Process 435. Tough, compact, but heavy.

I wasn't questioning your judgement. Just agreeing and commenting on the trans in the photo.

In addition to showing my ignorance by only looking at the picture and not paying attention to the fact that the truck is a ford. I've dealt with both transmissions I mentioned, but in GM product. I have no clue whose trans ford used.

Time for Ford to step up and sponsor the GRM Ramp Truck. Ford Racing Coyote Crate engine and trans shipped to your door with the electronic control swap kit. Since Daytona 500 is in your neighborhood soon, Ford can send the Roush pit crew by to help install.

Ah... a Ford FE motor... very fortunate you were able to remove the exhaust manifold bolts without snapping off any of the casting tabs above the ports.

I think that's a NP435.

The "rest of the story" part is that the link guides to the articles page where you see additional photos, and from that page you can easily locate and read the other installments in a project car series.

Came in here to type exactly that. Thanks, Margie. Since the project updates aren't divided into sections like every other item, the "read more" button is meant to get pointed to the rest of the updates.

Ahhhh ok. I get it now. I am the internet idiot of the day . I read it as there was actually "more to the story" and did not see the buttons on the bottom. I don't think they were there when this was originally posted since it was the first of the installments.

I have to stop being so literal I guess.

Thanks!!!!
