    About a year ago my father and I went out to the port of richmond and got a tour of a 1948 US navy gun boat that a couple of surly grey beards were restoring. Well apparently the original engine was shot so they cut the deck off and put in two huge mercedes Maybach diesel engines. I was telling my pops that it might fit into a mercedes.

    My initial response was Detroit Diesel 8V92, but its way too big, and way too much "stuff" on top of the cylinders.

    So I'm no help.

    Probably true. Who cares about redline when you've got a million and a half lb/ft of torque??
