I miss being able to hoon like a mass murderer in the subaru on snowy days.

What are the basic requirements for a RWD setup that will perform as well (with driver tweaks) as my late bone stock impreza with 165 width decent snows? I have the e30 and it's ready and willing.

Limited slips suck in snow IMO. When one tire spins, they both spin, and then you are sliding whether you want to or not.

GOOD snow tires and an open diff.

I've won a few rally-x's, and I've found that the best go fast secret is to have a general disregard for the car you are driving, and a trailer, with a winch on it

the basic requirement is to get another Subaru, if hooning in snow is the goal.

And here I am with a WRX on Winterports, an e30 on snow tires, and a 4Runner on M+S A/Ts......and we've seen less than 1 inch of snow so far this year.

    not amused.

You can still hoon like crazy in an AWD Subaru on snow.

My favorite RWD snow car was a 84 Mazda RX-7 GSL (LSD) with 175/75-13 Haakapelitta snows. Did some ice racing (Solo) with it too--was absolutely fantastic. The LSD made it work much better than earlier GS (no LSD) Mazdas that I had.

Lol! I had knobby rally tires on my RX3 and they hooked up better then any street tire in the dirt. Never drove it in the snow though, but if I did I would look into some tires like this...

A set of Firestone Winterforce tires. Have fun. You're welcome.

Make sure you get a snow tire - like a Winterforce and not an ice tire - like Michelin X-Ice.

I am not impressed by the X-Ice's in the snow.

truth. but once you hoon it down to the bottom of the local snow-covered hill, you can actually get back up to the top

other option is to rock 4x4 stance and some skinny Gislaved Nord Frosts (aka General Altimax Arctic in the USA) on your e30. I think mine has more ground clearance than our 4runner, lol

I'm rocking my '91 Miata with Nokian Hakka's and factory LSD (very loose now). I love upsetting SUV's on days like this
