What tires were used for steps 8 and 9? Putting the Toyos on at step 7 was a giant step backward; did you put the old tires on to run those high .9 numbers?

We installed Nitto NT-05's in step 8. We think the step backward in the results is due to fresh (brand-new, 0 miles.) tires and the mold release compound that they come with. The same tires were used in the following two tests. As the mold release wore off, the tires got much stickier and allowed greatly improved results.

In retrospect, we should have scrubbed them in some by doing a few miles on the street before testing.

Probably should have mentioned that in the article, but hindsight is 20-20! Thanks for the update.

Looks like a great issue so far. I've hardly been able to put it down since in came in yesterday's mail!

We mentioned squirmy tread blocks in step 8, and scuffed in tires in step 9. Tire pressure changes in Step 10 also helped.
