I know this post is a couple months old but I'm with curtis on this. 9 times out of time by the time your radar goes off it's already too late you've been tagged.
I got most of my speeding tickets 10-15 years ago when I was in my 20s and thought the law didn't apply to me. I received 4 back then and actually lost my license for a couple days until I fought them in court and won (had a lawyer with me).
I've learned that it wasn't worth it those couple days (missed an autocross too) I couldn't drive and now just like someone said just set the cruise control to the speed limit and just relax.
Read a bunch of other posts now. And I have to agree, been driving without my radar detector (I had a Bell 9800 -which stopped working about a year after I got it) since the late 90s. I keep eyes all over the place, up ahead looking for taillights lighting up, scanning back and forth (most roads I drive I drive often and know where most officers sit), and in my rear view every so often. I rarely talk on the cell phone, and if I do it's no longer than a min. I'm never the fastest car on the highway, but will stay in the right lane as much as possible. Also never the 1st car in a train of cars.
There's no need to speed and actually your mpg goes down a lot. We went to NYC to see my family and my wife's van usually gets 15-20mpg. That trip I just set it at the speed limit and got 25-28mpg.
My only recent ticket was when the speed limit went from 65mph to 55mph and didn't notice a bait car on the side of the road (bait car is what looks to be a broken down car with an officer in it). It was a 92-95 Honda Civic 4 door. At the next exit were 4-5 chase cars waiting. Unfortunately for me I didn't slow down enough as he was sitting at the 55mph sign and I just turned off my cruise at that sign.
