I'm thinking about attending the next rallycross near me. Anything I should do to my WRX to prepare? I have summer tires on 17s and stock otherwise.

Run it like it is. Summer tires MAY actually work ok, depending on the surface. Make sure to pump up the tire pressures to avoid a de-bead. Its also hard to make any setup suggestions as in the US it sounds like you guys actually have classes besides AWD, RWD, and FWD like we have up here. Certain tires/upgrades may bump you into certain classes. As with anything, running what you have stock will allow you to figure out where you need to go, and get a feel for whether you want to continue doing it.
Read GRM's 2nd latest magazine (Subaru rally-x guide).
Leftfoot braking I think would be a must, I've done plenty of rally-x's and it has made a night and day difference for me.
Oh, and go to dirtyimpreza.com for lots of rally-x tips and ideas, its kinda what they do

Evan, hit up Chris (cghstang) for some answers as he rally Xs quite a bit. He might even be at the rally X you'll go to.
Also, let me know when/if you go.

You rang?
If you're referring to this weekend at Paintball Country, I'll be there early setting up the course and what not.
Provided your car is in decent shape mechanically, all you need to do is make sure your battery is secure, remove any loose stuff from your interior, and air up your tires (40 psi to be safe). It's the same basic prep as autox really.
We had several total newbies at the last event running on 17" and larger street tires. I think they all had fun. This was one:

Paintball Country would be the one. I'm not sure if I can make it or not yet since it is almost 2 hours from me.

There should be a decent number of C-bus people making the trip this time. COS would be the place to organize/join any kind of caravan.

It's essential to bring the correct beer. This being summer, you want something that isn't very heavy. I prefer weissbiers, anything cheap and Czech, or (in a pinch) Corona.
As for prepping the car. Make sure you put the beer in the car before you leave home. I've made that mistake before, and believe me, it's quite embarassing!

It's about 4 hours from me. Unfortunately, home is about 12 hours away from it.

I still haven't recovered from my first (and only) outing. Bring a full sized spare so you aren't driving on the donut 40 miles to find a tire store on a Sunday after you puncture the sidewall when your vision was obscured by the red mist.

Wish I'd been there - Did Bill's Neon do alright this time? I helped weld up the new intercooler piping, but it was definitely not my best work. Should be better than the PVC he was running, though.

It held together in the sense that I didn't see anything fall off, but it was running like poo most of the day.

Wow, my driveway is worse than that, almost as long too. Maybe I need to find a raallyX around here and try it out.

So in between runs do you get in paintball games?

Couple questions for you Chris.
I'm registered for the event this weekend at National Trails, just Saturday.
I registered under Stock AWD with my 02 WRX, only mods are 17" wheels, is that the right class for me.
Do I need any identification other then numbers on the car. Such as the class I am running?
I checked out my battery and I am missing the hold down, should I get a hold down from the dealer before Sat or would I pass tech with a bungee securing it tightly?

Get a hold down. This is one area (for good reason or not) that most techs will fail you for. A bungee will not pass tech in my area.

Evan,
Glad to hear you're signed up. I'll be there just running Saturday too, maybe Sunday afternoon to help out too.
You'll need number and class identification. Painter's tape works well for this. Somebody will have some if you don't.
Technically non-stock size wheels bumps to you Prepared but I've seen people run 17s in stock class in the past. Ask your class-mates, I'm almost 100% sure they won't mind.
Miatame is correct about needing a hold down. Bungees are no good. You can get universal hold-downs pretty much anywhere that sells batteries, I've used one of those in the past and passed tech.

What would I use for class ID? AS for AWD stock? I will be in no way competitive so it doesn't really matter what I am classed as.
I am planning on getting some magnetic sheets and making up some numbers.

Cool, I'll probably make a couple for PA as well if I get bumped to that class. Always good to be prepared (rimshot).

Paintball Country is here.
The rallycross this weekend is at National Trail Raceway (overflow parking area) in Hebron, OH.
