(they get paid whether its a broke down car or your souped up camaro... I've had lots of project cars towed before and never really had a problem except once with an shiny happy person tow driver. I second the "call cooter" idea though).

The premier(gold) membership is well worth it but if you've actually had to use it in the last year you're not eligible. I was able to sign up last year, but with all of my rusty rolling stock I didn't qualify for the last few years :)

You should just call AAA and get a plus membership. gives you like 100 miles free towing IIRC.
I have a premier membership which is 200 miles free towing.
At any rate its less than $100 for year and will pay for itself first time you use it.

AAA wouldn't cover the tow for my friends car as it was off the road. Something to think about.

Ive had several projects towed by AAA. Just slap a random plate on the car and no driver has ever cared. half the time they didnt even ask to see my AAA card they just backed up loaded the car on the flatbed and went.
Although AAA wont work when your area just got hit with 12in of snow overnight and you want to get your car to a tranny shop 40miles away.
On the topic of "off the road" i had that come up once. long story short jsut have to give the guy a big tip.
