I have just called Koni regarding rebuilding my sport (yellow, single adjustable) shocks. The guy I spoke with recommended buying new as it would likely be cheaper than rebuilding. I am happy with the Konis, but should I look at something else? I am also replacing all of my bushings, ball joints and tie rod ends this winter.

Have you checked out the Flyin Miata stage 1 kit? It's pricey but worth it. I installed this kit on my NA Miata and was happy on the street and track. Felt great.

How in the world is it cheaper to buy new Yellows than rebuild?

I had all four of mine rebuilt this past spring for about $250 including shipping fees.

In my 10 minutes of research I can get 4 Konis for roughly $550. I am open for anything in that price range. I can be easily convinced to spend more, if it is worth it. So far the only thing that I have checked are rebuilding or buying Konis.

I was quoted $125 minimum with up to $80 additional in parts, each

Could look into the FM Vmaxx Stage 2 kit...

How do you use the car? What springs?

I drive it hard on the street, I would like to autocross it this summer. The car has only seats and a dash for the interior. As to the springs , they were on it when I bought the car.

If you're happy driving something that stripped out, the V-Maxx is probably a good option. It'll give you cornerweight and ride height adjustment and has some fairly firm spring rates. $595 for a set including springs, shocks and bumpstops, so it's right in your price range.

So where'd ya find them for $550? Most of the prices I've seen were in the $650/700 range. Interested if you've got a link.

They were on the car when I bought it. I think they are guaranteed for the original purchaser.

Ok, I had found that one too. BTW - shipping pushes you over $600 for those.

I had mine rebuilt and revalved by TriPoint Engineering. Something around that $125 mark if I remember correctly.

Don't underestimate the value of being able to custom valve them. I went to great effort to direct import both Koni's and Bilsteins for my Volvo 544. Neither has appropiate valving, and the Bilsteins are cheaply made. I think if I get back to building it, I am going to have the Koni's revalved and sell the Bilsteins on Ebay. Not just my opinion on the incorrect valving but also the opinion of V-performance/John Parker in NY, who does some of the best thought through suspension improvments on that generation Volvo. Not a recommendation to him though, as he seems to be willing to flout some very black and white laws about sending product when he's been sent money...
