    '97 9000 GSE Turbo-$4500

    Thoughts on this car? I will say that if it was a hatch, I would have already bought it

    I'd wait for a hatch to come up, IMHO they're better looking and are a lot more practical.

    I'd really like a 9000. If it were me, I'd get it. I think.

    Wait for a hatch. And i like the earlier ones better as long as they still have the 2.3T. Way cheaper, same car.

    I'd never buy a Saab without some serious maintenance records (we owned a '00 9-3 for a few painful years). I think you'll find better examples on http://www.saabnet.com

    Shameless plug: You could by my 2002 9-5 with an engine with less than 15,000 miles on it for $4500.

    That's a CSE, and is not a sedan; it's hard to tell in the pic. Saab 9000 sedans (CD models) went away in the early 90s.

    Aeros are nice but make sure it's a 5-speed; autos had less power. Also, '98 (97 too??) 9000 CSE models with 5-speed had the same 225hp spec. Aeros had Recaro seats that prevent the rear seat from folding down completely, making them a bit less practical. They are fast, comfortable, and terrific on the highway but I don't think they're nearly as fun to drive as the old classic 900 (I think it has to do with the latter's double-a-arm design).

    As noted above, see Saabnet.com's Classifieds, where you're likely to find decent cars with records. A buyer's inspection by a Saab indy is worth the money, and if you buy one, www.eeuroparts.com is your friend.

    Since the 99 "wagonback" in the mid-70s, yeah, hatchbacks were their "thing," definitely. Some people feel that one of dumber decisions Saab/GM made was to stop selling hatches.

    I might try to go look at it tomarrow. If it is still around after tax time I will be in trouble. OTOH, this place doesn't update the web site very often, so it might be gone.

    ^^^^ Everything he said + keep in mind that 9000s had very few of the problems that 9-5 and 9-3s suffer from, I've met many a 9-5 owner that said the 9-5 was a piece of junk compared to the 9000 that they traded. Engine sludging is rare and post 94 9000s don't have tcs systems to go bad. I've owned 3 9000s and I love them, even my wifes pokey non turbo. I actually find that the 9000s are easier to work on than c900s too.(but c900s are still more fun to drive)

    110ish. It had the sludging problem and was replaced for free by GM. New clutch then too.

    If you are in NY, NJ, Pa, and you need an HONEST reliable tech who KNOWS SAABs... may I suggest Sweet Motors in Kenvil N.J.

    Don't worry. At $4495, it's still there. This is a car appealing to only a few folks (myself included) on the heels of the total collapse of the company that spawned it. If the car is really nice, offer $2500. If the dealer says no, raise to $2700. If the dealer still says no, walk. They'll be calling you in two weeks.

    It was the last vestage of saabness that GM killed...
