I want something that is essentially a 92-95 civic hatch, fully loaded, with a tiny turbodiesel and a 6 speed manual that can run on WVO. With box flares.

I get up to 50 mpg at 55 mph and average 40+ MPG in town and higway combined, per tank in a plain old gas engined Elantra

    Photobucket

This is not instant, the Elantra only does average since a fill

As I understand it, Toyota's plan is to bring the iq to the 'states with a CVT AUTOMATIC transmission ONLY. At least that is the impression I get from some of the news blurbs I read in various mags. They always quote the price of an iq WITH automatic....no price for this car with manual is published anywhere.

Since I'm usually wrong, my "guess" is this car will fizzle within weeks of it's launch in the U.S.

As someone else on an earlier posting under this subject has said: "Toyota would be better off bringing in the AYGO". That car is cheaper, and gets marginally less miles to the gallon....in exchange for quicker acceleration and a higher top speed. At least to me....another dumb move by Toyota.

    In reply to EvanR:

Let's be fair. A $12.5k Smart doesn't include air conditioning or a radio.

Um, ours was $12,500 with power steering and stereo. Each a $400 option. A/c is a ridiculous idea in Vermont. Would rather have had the paddle shifters though.
