I am driving my 64 Datsun 1500 to Watkins Glen later this week. I started a quick motor tun up and it turned into a 5 year while i am here project. It is now ready to go, but it has 5 years of dust and grime on it. I am tempted to just take it like that. Should I wash it?

Drive it like it is. Take lots of pictures.
That must have been a very involved tune up to take 5 years.

Turned into a complete drivetrain rebuild, engine bay rewire, hoses, grommets, etc. Looks like new!

It could get a little dicey if you run into a sudden/unexpected rain shower. Just sayin'.

first drive: wear safety goggles. open all vents, let all the crap blow out of them. then clean the glass inside and out. drive it filthy.

I always have to be different. After all that work it deserves to look good. Wash it, better yet detail it then post pictures.

Is it registered?
If it's not 100% legal, it would be unwise not to wash it.

If it'd been a "barn find" that you got running in situ, then it would be appropriate to leave it dirty. But since you already owned the car, I say wash it.

wash 1/2 of it so it looks like one of those cleans , buffs , waxes all in one commercials.

Once it came out of the garage it did not look too bad. If it looked worse I would have left it alone. I washed it.

It is actually a 2 owner, 43K mile car. Just turned 43K on the way back from Watkins Glen.
