I was looking at a helmet it had a snell sa with no number. What does this mean?

That it is probably a counterfeit. If it doesn't have the Snell SA 2XXX sticker on it I would not buy it. It will not be accepted by any organization I know of.

keep looking. if it's a reputable brand dig around the inside under the padding for the real sticker. otherwise, it is probably not actually snell rated.

CCS. (Cheap Chinese..uh.."stuff").
Makes me angry that the counterfeiters have paid that much attention to the real ones.
Stan, go to a reputable race supply shop and spend the cash for a good one. They'll even help you make sure it's the right size. You can get a real helmet for a lot less than you think. The fake ones might keep a kid on a mini-bike from getting his head cracked open, but if you ever need the real thing, anything less simply will not do.
Dude...don't take that kind of chance with the only head you have.

That is perfectly normal.
Excellent advice from the helmet experts on the board... not.
On the outside of the helmet, it may say snell, or snell approved and have no date.
You need to look inside for the snell approved sticker, and look for the date there.
It doesn't matter what it says on the outside, it's the sticker on the inside that is checked in a tech inspection.

Yep, and if it's an older helmet, don't be surprised if the sticker has fallen off. I've had that happen to me once, and the helmet was only a couple years old. I was going through tech at an autocross, and they weren't going to let me use my helmet. I KNEW there was a sticker in there and it was new enough, but damned if I or the tech inspector could find it. We both gave up and I figured I'd just use a loaner, when I looked in my back seat and saw a small white piece of paper in it. Yep, it was the sticker.

Look under the liner, chances are that you just cannot find it, I had a similar problem with my auto-x helmet, couldnt find it under the liner at first, finally did. It can be difficult.

If the sticker has fallen off the inside of the helmet it will fail tech inspection regardless of whether it really is Snell approved or not.
