Well, we picked up the car Saturday. We hadn't seen it before we picked it up. It had nothing but cosmetic damage. We drove it onto the tow dolly! Started right up in 15 degree weather! We were shocked the the insurance company sold it for $650.

Towed it home, but before we got it back, we stopped to look at some parts that it needed to put it back together. The guy with the parts bought OUR car for $2000.

Hell, can't argue with that. Nice profit!

So how did you get hooked into the insurance company to buy totaled cars?

This was an isolated opportunity. It was a friend that wrecked his car, and we asked if we could buy it.

Jeeze, With state farm a buy back on a totaled car has only ever been $60. But it was always our own car, and never a mustang...Shrug

Even the guy at the tow yard (who would see this more than I would.) said that he was surprised that they sold it so cheap. In this case "totaled" meant that repairs would exceed the value of the car, not that the car was totally destroyed. The insurance adjuster said that he had 2 estimates from salvage companies and he sold it to us for the lower of the two. Technically we were acting as the original owner.

It's a Ford motor, I'm certain someone has a bellhousing adaptor to fit it up to a 9n tractor.

How about another Mustang? Maybe an older one?
