Admittedly...I'm not a drift fan but I'm watching Speed when NASCAR isn't on. So it's Formula Drift. They start talking about the competition and mention that one driver is faster than the other. Then the conversation goes to who's the fastest driver in drifting. Can someone educate me here? I thought style and some other undefined trait were what gained you points in drifting. What's with the focus on speed during the drift?

btw - This isn't a dig. I'm also not trolling. Just genuinely curious as I must be missing something.

A really cool thing was there seems to be a lot of domestic cars in the competition. Vipers, Corvette's, GTO's or G8's....

    Thanks!

Going faster is always better than going slow. I can go drift my Miata pretty well, but people would probably get bored watching me go 30 mph and go find some guy in a caked-out GTO (you can use that one) going sideways at 100.

Right. Because American cars are awesome! (And we seem to make a lot more Right Wheel Drive cars than everyone else. To use the AWD cars, they have to disable the front wheels).

Drift judging is usually based on a combination of different factors. It varies with judges, but I think angle, line, and speed (in that order) are generally the three most important.

When they say "fastest," they're talking about high speed control skill, as in who's the best at drifting at high speeds.

Anybody have any info on the new ae86 driver's car cleaning up? What baffles me is he uses a nitrous setup, its the red corolla, I believe its not a hatch as well. I was trying to find info on the motor but no luck.

Yes I was quite intrigued by that too! Uses a 4ag, unbelievably! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JGnwIHeZdsI

They don't mention it but I believe it is bored to 1750cc from the 1.6L

the best part of watching drifting is the tandem runs, when the driver in front screws up you get to see how good the trailing driver realy is. out side of that I consider drifting to be much like base ball, Its a great time when seen live, but puts me to sleep on tv.
