Nice to know that's not listed on any of the NASA websites I looked at

And now that the fiancee's car died, and we're a single-car "household," I don't believe I'll be able to do the HPDE until she finds another car or I can afford a toy. Smashing my car up because I hit a bit of grass clipping an apex and then having NO car will suck.

thanks you guys. I've scraped a few projects for the T/A after reading htis and plan on purchasing a cage and an upgraded power steering pump instead of doing some other things...thanks

With most of the weight transferred to the outside wheels, clipping a bit of grass with your inside tire shouldn't cause you to wad your car up.

    Shouldn't.

+1 to the posts about good pads and fresh DOT 4 fluid. Autocross cooks your tires, HPDEs cook your brakes.

A single weekend hpde insurance policy for a bmwcca event is around $60 for 10k agreed value.

Do they sell that through BMW CCA?

I've done many HPDEs with my Saturn. It is a quite capable car. Take the advice about brake pads. I use Hawk Blues. Get ones for a Mitsu Eclipse, and grind down a bit of the backing plate edges to make them fit.

It's through Lockton Affinity, endorsed by the BMWCCA.

Although the rates have gone up since I checked last year, now it comes up at $89 for values under $12500.
