Cars may not be the best candidates for a transplant, but this guy might need a hardware upgrade:

The engine bay in my Newport is pretty big... (I know, that's what she said.)

I saw a photo once of an Allison in an Isetta, but I can't find it anywhere.

A Rover SD1. Granted, the one in the link is running the tank engine version of the Merlin (non-supercharged, for starters) and I don't think there's that much left of the original car.

I'll bet they go to either an offshore racing boat or a warbird restoration shop.

I'm thinking the Rolls Royce version of the Merlin that went into the tanks was called the Meteor and would bet it isn't the same the one in the aircraft.

Just for thread levity, an overhaul on a Merlin costs $50,000.00. And by overhaul that gets you cam and main bearings, new rings and a hone. That's it.
I'm betting warbirds.

I thought the engines' original applications were for either marine or military (e.g., tank) use. If they can be adapted for aviation, please make it so - we need more restored and flying warbirds.

In reply to Appleseed: I worked with a guy who had rebuilt Merlins for someplace in Wisconsin before moving to Indiana. Yeah, those rebuilds & parts prices are just unbelievable!

And you can thank Jack Roush for a lot of the rebuild parts even existing.
