So, I'm in a bit of a conundrum. As some may remember my early impreza bodied car last fall. I'm since found another body/cage to transfer my drivetrain to, it's GD generation impreza which is a touch bigger and heavier. I loved the way my previous car handled. It's coilovers had spring rates of 390 front/340 rear, with an adjustable rear sway bar that is stiffer than stock on all settings. So in the process of the rebuild it was noted that one of the coil overs was blown and one has broken spring collar. So long story short, they need a rebuild. I'm flirting with the idea of picking up a set of raceland coilovers, as they are very inexpensive and grm reviewed them briefly. My thought process is, I can put them on my race car while I send the old coilovers out for a rebuild. While I'm not expecting them to be the worlds best at a bargain price, I think they'd do just fine as a temporary solution. Their spring rates are 450front/280 rear. Once my normal coilovers are rebuilt I'd put them back in. The racelands can then end up in one of my beater road going subies(maybe). The perk being that, after the rebuild I'll have another full set of coil over springs, in which to "tune" the ride in the race car.

Here are some of my questions. With an ultra stiff rear sway bar, does that somewhat negate softer rear springs? My understanding is with soft rear springs, and firm front springs, this is a recipe for understeer, is that correct? I realize there will be trial and error here, so I'm not expecting to have it correct out the box, just want a better understanding before I get started messing with things. The car will be a hillclimber primarily with a little autocross and track time mixed in. Typically we find that spring rates for hillclimbing is somewhat softer than road race due to the imperfections in the roads we use.
