Do challenge rules actually specify DOT only? (Honestly, I don't know this)

    Challenge rules said:

    5

Cars must be roadworthy, meaning basic street equipment must be present: functioning headlights, uncracked windshields, battery tie-down straps, working brake lights, working horn and DOT-approved tires.

    6

Non-DOT-legal slicks are allowed at the drag strip, but they must be replaced by DOT-legal tires for the autocross competition.

Do they still have the "caveman" class subset? Sounds like you should look into that and modify appropriately.

junkbuggie tried to sneak in: ...and a small supercharger pully (sic)

    Wait...What?!? $300 car with a supercharger. COOL!

I've actually thought about doing something like that just so I could finally come down and see the Challenge in person. I hear it's a great party..

2001 buick regal GS the car is mint other than some minor hail damage. I bought it thinking it needed a motor but it was just a A/C compresor that was locked up. A dorman A/C delete pully was $35 shiped to my door so I am in to it for $335 this seems to give me a lot of room to play...

Also in cave man class can I...

    1) use a lift?

2)pay full labor to have a reflash? (then I am not doing it.)

    3)use a cordless drill?

My e28 was pretty stock. I DD it for 6 months, painted it and took it to the challenge. I stayed under $1000, brought it home and sold it for 2k. On hindsight and with a little more spare time I could have dropped 300 lbs, fixed the secondary fuel pump and used better tires - probably would have been worth 10 positions.

So a hand full of mods + paint = not a douchebag? If so count me in.

I've been twice with no car. I only missed last year because I was out of state for work.

I thought Caveman class required carbs?

I think that has been changed to include factory FI systems, but I can't find the cavemen class rules.

Hey, wait a minute... That might prohibit a re-flash.

Anybody got the rules for caveman class?

This is kind of where I am with my Shelby Dakota project. As I work on it I realize what good condition it really is. Truthfully, I could paint it get replacement decals and it would be good for local car shows and cruise nights. It is in that good condition.

I kinda like the idea of a separate class for fly-in/buy beater/clean it up/run it. Maybe it dilutes the point of the Challenge, but I can certainly see it as being entertaining in and of itself. Maybe an extra consideration in addition to autocross/drag/concours: it has to be purchased outside of a certain radius (maybe...300 miles) and driven to the Challenge.

That would kinda screw us local Gainesville Challengers!

But, as to the fly in/buy/Challenge theory, we have always offered our local services to out of town Challengers. If you decide you want to follow that route, one of us could certainly handle the local transaction for you and store the car as well (for a reasonable amount of time of course!).

We have been doing the beater/repo vehicle challenge entry for several years . Sentravalanche , Mitsuwantanabee, Sentravalanche, RX&7 Eruption , And the Triumph Stag we store bought with a chevy 350 allready to go ! Believe this the graphics and removal of interior and transport of vehicles , beer >>>>>>> it aint all that freakin simple . I would not change a bit of it . Do it !

This years entry is different ground up build donor vehicle engine . should be pretty sweet . The only trophy I feel is the greatest honor is "Worst attempt to bribe Judges "
