I like the talent vs. upgrades idea. Take 2 fiestas, put both on similar sized Rivals, leave one otherwise stock and spend 1K in suspension/power mods on the other. Then have an someone with little driving experience lap them both back to back. Send said someone to a drivers school then have them lap both back to back again. See if the modded cars unskilled lap is close to the stock car's skilled lap.
Also I happen to know someone who might know some things about minivans....

The amount spent should be even. Like $1500 driving school vs. $1500 in mods.
