So I am stuck in Austin for two more days. Any good car things to while I am here? Oh, I have looked for the F1 track but the website doesn't give an address and in further searching I only found roughly the area it is in.

    Thanks for the thought. RS

SXSW - not a car thing, but don't miss it.

Not too may car related things in Austin proper.

If you've got a car and a few hours to waste, there's a decent car museum about 60 miles east of Austin in Rosanky, TX.

    Museum

The new Fiat dealership is at the Domain Mall.

    Fiat Of Austin

There's a Ferrari dealer on North Lamar

    Ferrari

Non car stuff, there's Zilker Park, UT (which is a pretty campus and fairly dead for spring break), Mt. Bonnell, the bats flying out at dusk under the Congress bridge, Bob Bullock Texas History Museum, etc.

Aparently Austin is one of the few cities where you can watch the movie Senna. Do that.

Senna is only playing at SXSW venues right now and is/was already sold out. If he's there for SXSW, he might already have a ticket for it.

No kart track in Austin. They closed about two years ago and haven't had a chance to re-open yet.

(unless you count the kiddie kart stuff at Austin Parks and Pizza)

The guy with the car museum in Rosanky also has another museum in San Marcos.....would recommend either one!

There's an exotic car dealership off 183 near Spicewood Springs Rd on the northbound side near the big boat dealer.

Saturday nights there's a nice car show up in north Austin/Cedar Park off 183A and 1431.

You can go check out Driveway Austin which is down south off 183 past 290. Kinda hard to give directions... Local guys should know how to get you there. I haven't been in a while.

If you feel like wrenching on a crazy project, my buddy in Hutto is building a Ford Fairmont Wagon with a 2.3T, 5 speed, full Maximum Motorsports suspension, and 2004 Cobra IRS. LOL

Really? How do you know is there a website listing where it is showing?

It was a special showing that I think was on the 12th. Sadly I was still in PNW...

Go see Austin Speed shop on south Lamar. Its now partly owned by Jesse James which is a major bummer. Its only a shadow of its former glory, but there is some NEAT stuff there. Go talk to John Joyo and ask for the grand tour.

Up northwest there is a true hotrodding gem - Mercury Charlie. He has built some legends. Do some googling on him and then you'll realize why you need to meet him.

Kontinental Club is a good place to hit. Lots of car guys there.

I live about 1/2 mile from Mercury Charlie's. Stop in and see me while you're up here.

There is a father/son team of guys in Elroy (south of the airport) named Taylor Rotorsports. They race LeMons and several others with all rotary stuff.

Have you been to Salt Lick BBQ in Dripping Springs? Its a must-eat place. Hudson's on the Bend is a neat (swanky) restaurant that serves wild game. Right now they have Elk, Axis Venison, and Goose on the menu. Around Christmas they usually have Reindeer and Penguin. Not kidding. Bone Daddys and Rudys are two other excellent BBQ joints.

Elgin is a neat old texas town. There is a ghost town out near Elgin as well.

Bandera is about a 2-hour ride, but its a super neat town and they're having a big Harley poker run today and tomorrow.

Tomorrow in Lampasas there is a pre-80 car show. This year's theme is mobster cars and they're trying to get some old original moonshine runners and old cop cars. Lampasas is an easy drive. Its about 1 hour, just take 183 north until you get there.
