So I will be looking for a tow pig/4wd Winter vehicle. Mpgs aren't very important, cheap and reliable are. My wife says she cannot be embarrassed to drive it and it shouldn't be too old (20 years old or less). Also prefer Suvs over trucks (dry and lockable storage. Place to sleep).

I like the Gen 1 sequoia. Tahoe and suburban are also in the running.

You'll get a bunch of Suburban suggestions I'll bet. And for good reason!

+1 on Suburban/Yukon. I have my 04 Yukon on CL right now for $6k. Great tow vehicle, awesome ride.

Yeah, I am putting a trade ad on CL now for your tow pig plus cash for my 2012 Focus.

I just found a 97 LX450 at a local dealer with 165k miles on it!! They seem to have it priced to move and I am going to see what I can get on trade for my focus.

Anyone tow with a FJ80 landcruiser/LX?

jeez, $7k with 300,000 miles? Are these really worth that much?

I've seen the LX450 around town and thought about it over the toyota version since they seem to always be in nicer condition. don't expect good mileage but I think it should tow just fine.

Yeah, the 2500 Avalanche isn't happening. I am looking forward to checking this Lexus out.

Does anybody ha very experience trading down at a dealer?

To be different, I recommend a full size GM. Wait, that's not different... I picked up a 2002 Suburban with 64k (not a typo) on it for $8k last year. It's been fantastic for 11k miles that I've put on it. Tows a boat like it's not there, carries eight people, goes through snow like nothing.

Gen 1 Sequoia is what I just picked up as tow pig/wife's family hauler. We switched backwards from an 08 4Runner to an 05 Sequoia.

For Sequoias, I'd suggest looking at 05-07s as they have better brakes and better transmissions, and less rust issues than the early ones.

Just did the timing belt/water pump and all fluids on it in the last week. Went +1 diameter on the tires....drives and rides like new at 90k miles. Not as much fun as the 4runner but a solid performer. First tow for it will be in 3 weeks but I expect it to be fine for our 4500lb load (the V6 4Runner was fine too)

Also the big plus is that it looks good enough that the wife will be fine with it...the ubiquitous soccer-mom-mobile, but with some muscle behind it. A little "softer" than a Tahoe or Suburban (which you also can't really go wrong with)

And it also goes through snow like nothing (on fresh Revo2's)

Love to get an 05 sequoia but it is probably not possible to be had for 6k.

Yeah around here a 2001 sequoia barely fits into my criteria. I can get a lot of suburban for the same amount

I'm retarded....in the title I assumed that you just needed something that could tow something under 6k lbs.......

In that case, I don't have any Toyota suggestions, since $6k won't get you very far. Though I have seen 01-02 Sequoias with 250k miles or so at that price....

In MO, 6K gets a 01 with 150k
