so what is the little subaru 4 door wagon with the back lopped off and a small truck bed called?

i want one of those - but they seem rather rare around here and i do not know what to call it in searches.

any preferences on which year to look for or what to stay away from? i'm just in the preliminary stages of thinking about beginning to look right now but i'm slapping a for sale sign on the P71 shortly and by winter i'd like to find one.

hard to find with manual trans?

Baja XT with the turbo...mmm... goodness.

Their owners don't ever seem to want to part with them, though.

I saw one once with a truckbed shell, or whatever they are called...one of these things:

Why not just get an Outback?

I have never sat in one, but apparently the back seats are useless and in most cases, an outback is much more useful.

Gotta agree with this one, I want one. Plain jane hood, FMIC, and the sleeper from hell has arrived.

I would go water to air intercooling.. but then I have sick thoughts of getting an STi, removing the wing, scoop, and putting fogs back in to make it look like a plain 2.5gt...

There is a guy local with a STI swap and meth injection that thing is nuts.

I'm not sure what the deal is with Bajas, but when I worked at a Subaru dealership, those things came in for repairs more than anything else. Just food for thought...

I always thought the Baja highly impractical, but I guess it comes down to what you're carrying. The Baja can carry taller things. The Outback longer stuff. I see a lot of them around here, but the SIA plant is just the other side of town.

    In reply to petegossett:

Sure enough. I live in West Lafayette near Purdue campus. SIA is at Exit 168 off I-65. Maybe 10 miles from where I live.

Oh cool, I work in Lafayette, but live just across the state line in IL. Lafayette is more like our home though since we're here most of the time.

In Seattle, where you can't swing a dead cat 360* without hitting at least a dozen Subaru owners, I rarely see Bajas.

No sir. The Brat has only 2 doors. Not the same as the Baja.
