In researching the T5s, I hear the ones behind 6 cylinders aren't suitable for V8 applications -in some opinions. Others say it's not an issue if you stay below 300 ft/lbs of torque. Just how far does anyone think you can push a stock T5 considering the various stock appllications they came from?

    thanks, Stan

T5s are pretty different depending on what it was stock in. Just in foxbody Mustangs there's a pretty significant difference in strength between 5.0 and 2.3L versions.

Can you be more specific about the donor car your T5 came from?

When I was researching T5s I ended up with one from a Thunderbird Turbocoupe. From what I read it would be fine with a stock or mildly worked 5.0.

Seen everything form stock rebuilt v8 T5's in a 3400# mustang race on drag radials run 11.5 1/4's to myself breaking reverse on DR's out on the street (don't ask).

2.3 T5's have oddball gearing for the no torque 4cyl and different input shaft pilot diameter.

Then the GM versions are even weirder with the rotationally offset version in Fbodys, the "mid shift" S10 version, etc.

Hammer it till it breaks, then back off some.

Seriously, how do you drive and where? Drag racing w/ sticky tires is different from "adult driving" or even driving on the salt flats (no traction).

I would GUESS the turbo tranny might work for an adult driven 5.0. Get some #s off the tranny and find out the torque rating.

    Have fun . . . .

What I'm specificallly looking at is the T5 from an AMC I6 being used in a SBF, but who knows what I'll use it in eventually...

Thanks for the input from everyone.
