If you're gonna do that, at least paint the car orange with 01 on the doors.

That isn't quite the tail of the dragon. That's a few miles away from the beginning. Nice road, runs along the lake.
I saw the interview on the local news here. He said he was distracted by all the police and flashing lights. Epic.
There is a blind curve right before that slide but still...the cops could have closed the road a few hundred yards north of there.

No, the guy was driving a Lincoln and wanted out of it. He's like, "Hey, I have full coverage on this heap!"
The rest is history.

A buddy pointed out - correctly I think - that it's the cop's fault here. I mean, why was the cop there - to block the road. He should have blocked the road with his car, instead of worrying about the media.
What it turns into is a great example of the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle, where the act of observing something alters what you see. That's exactly true here. If the cops and media weren't there, the guy would never have hit it. Of course, it's really his own fault, but creating a big disruption on the side of the road, taking away peoples attention from their driving, is a bad move in itself.

Yeah. I figure we've all seen people who can't drive..what's the difference whether they're off the road or still on it?
EDIT: After thinking about it a little more, I think I'm actually more worried about the ones still on the road than I am about the ones that finally put the car off..

You are kidding right? It's the cops fault? You later say no, its really the guy who was driving, it was actually his fault. Which is it? I've trained myself not to rubberneck. If I can do it, anyone else can too. If the cop had parked his car in the road, jackass lincoln douche bag would have creamed the cop car.

You know the only reason the hooker spambots descend on us is that this is the only forum on the internet that still talks about Ford Escorts.

That could also explain how he failed to see boulders the size of Suburbans in the road in front of him. It was entertaining to see his car jump the first pile though. Glad the dog wasn't hurt

It's official - Dragon is blocked off at the state line. TDOT now saying slide will be cleared on March 26, but some estimates are that it will continue to be closed until July or August. The TN governor has decided not to accept North Carolina's help with law enforcement and emergency services and instead has decided to close the road entirely from the rockslide south to the state line. You can contact the TN governor using this email address: Phil.Bredesen@tn.gov or by visiting his website at http://www.tennesseeanytime.org/governor/Contact.do There are phone numbers and physical addresses for snail mail. Please sens the fool...er, governor a note to keep one of the best roads in America open!

Hugely! The store/motorcycle resort at the start may have to shut down with the road closed. TN doesn't care because thats on the NC side. NC has offered to take over law enforcement and rescue but the TN governor is being an asshat.
