I know, the answer is always miata. Ive owned 2 and rather like them.

I also have one of the worst cases of automotive ADD known to man. But I've been trying to be good and focus on building this Wartburg.

Still, I have the opportunity to go in the morning and pick up a 90 Miata, 160k, needs clutch, typical rocker rot and bad back window. $800 (or less)

So talk me down, or talk me into it, I'm flexible :)

Be patient. Bring the Wartburg to the challenge, pick up a rust free running driving Miata for sub $1k in FL while you are here and take it home.

Truth is I don't really have a need or want for one right now but if I can get it down to a price point its an easy fix and flip and that's the kind of things that makes Wartburg building possible :)

Take your hand off your wallet, give your significant other the checkbook and step away from the Miata. You don't need another project right now. However, I often don't listen to my own advice so why should you.

If it helps I have 2 leaving in the next week ;) And I just sold off another last week so I'd actually be down to just 2 instead of my usual 3 or 4 :)

Miatas are a dime-a-dozen. Wartburgs are not. Plus, I wouldn't want to mess with rust repair. Were it my call, I'd put the $800 (or less) into the Wartburg.

And I don't think you have a worse case of automotive ADD than I...

don't do it Jim, er.... unless your certain you can flip it after a small amount of work... problem being that that is time you could spend working on the wart.

Especially where a miata is concerned. Its an odd day for GRM.

Or maybe folks just really want to see the Wartburg get finished on time.

Actually Tetzuoe, its your fault, you have more projects than me for a change ;) Now its a race to see if the Wartburg is done before the Porsche.

I agree, I expected this to be like walking into a bar and asking the bartender to talk you down from ordering a drink.

How hard is it do do rust repair on a miata?... there are a few up in NorthernVA under a grand with some rust.

I've done some on my MG, but really- some of the Miata's have rust that would make MG's jealous. Rockers, rear wheelarches etc. If Miata's are anything like MG's I think I'd rather just spend the extra dough on a rust-free example.

Maybe I'm just not into lockjaw as much as I used to be.

Rust in the rockers doesnt bother me, usually simple to repair if you have the tools/ability.

Well, I decided to be good and emailed the seller that I wasn't going to come see the car because I really didnt have the $800 he was asking and I didnt want to waste his time.

He emailed me back to bring $500 and a trailer.....how could I say no?

its a rat. but for the price with new struts and springs and some other goodies in there its worthwhile. Wish I had the time and money, I'd make a Locost out of it.

Add a rollcage mounted to the frame rails and let the rust turn it into a locost for you!

It was considered breifly, but we like our current Wartburg build plan a little better.
