    As for the book:

    http://www.jagsthatrun.com/

These guys actually have books for LOTS of different swaps into different vehicles, and then they sell the required parts. Their only Volvo book is good for SBC into a 200 series, but not Ford. However, the Ford is EXTREMELY popular due to better weight distribution (it sits further back) and it weighs about 100 pounds less than a SBC.

I would probably opt for the Ford swap. Converse Engineering was/is the go to place for the swap kits.Nice score.

Yeah, they make the one I was thinking of buying. Anyway, for me the SBC may make more sense just because that's what I have... I can keep it all in the family and kill a few birds with one stone. I was thinking of buying the TPI book, too, since I want to use an LT1.

So, thumbs up for the book?

Why wouldn't the transmission just automatically go into fifth? Sorry about the stupid questions, just never been in a car this old.

Edit: Actually, is it a manual or automatic? Pushing a button makes me think automatic, but that's really old to have a five speed automatic. If it's a manual... what's up with pushing a button? This doesn't make any sense.

I have the JTR book somewhere. Been looking for a good car to use for a while now. The takeaway from it is pretty much drop it in and drive away if you use a T5, hammer like heck if you want an auto, less so if you use the 200R4 instead of the 700R4.

As to the overdrive, it's a separate box on the back of a regular 4-speed. Like two transmissions attached to each other. The main one shifts with a stick and works like any other manual, the other shifts into overdrive via a solenoid. More like a 2-speed rear end than a 5-speed transmission, except it's electrically locked out so it'll only go into OD in 4th. Bypass a switch, though, and you get come hot corvette-esque 4+3 action....

    In reply to oldopelguy:

Ah, cool. Two speed rear end i get, saw Jay Leno do a bit about them in his videos. Thank you for explaining this. :)

Some more teaser pictures I cracked the front air dam on it do to the ridiculous design of the dolly, had to use jacks to get it on and off

Yea, what you don't see in the pictures is the front of the dolly. Its easy enough to get it started, but then there is a ridge that takes out air dams like nobodies business.

And before you ask, no, we don't have any 2x4's (go figure, my father doesn't build homes or anything)

Soooo, that was a long night!

It just so happens it wasn't the strut mount that was broke, but the lower spring perch had almost completely rusted off It had rusted so much that the coil pushed the perch down enough to rub the tire... it also didn't help that the spring had the bottom coil broken off, which caused what was now the "lower" coil of the spring to pop out of the perch The quick solution to get the car drivable enough to put into storage was to do this:

This was done after I spent 2 odd hours with spring compressors getting the spring re-seated. The bolts look like they have never been touched, which is why I didn't just pull the strut completely to do it. What we did here today was essentially stretch the second lowest coil to meet the first, which would provide some upward pulling force on the mount. This gave us just enough clearance (just barely touching instead of the full on previous tire destroying rubbing), so I could drive the car 10km to the storage lot. The car was AWESOME to drive, lots of get up and go, pulls to redline just fine, and a nice smooth comfy volvo ride

We are pulling GT40 heads off an exploder this wednesday, only $100 for the pair! Then we just have to find a mustang...

    Nice score Adam.

I have an 82 244DL that I am planning to rally-x and TSD the crap out of. Unfortunately mine came with a B21A (carb'd 102 Hp!). I have an 81 B23E that I can swap, but I am really looking for a B230FT out of a 7-series volvo to swap into it.

I probably am going to have a B21FT (intercooled model 162hp) for sale, whole wagon missing a few odds and ends (but perfectly fine drivetrain/engine/electronics).
