All that taptaptaptapping she has been doing the past two months came to a head today with a series of nasty metallic sounds on the way home from work. She still got me home, but way down on power and big on noise.

Thankfully I got the TI back on the road just in time.

For whatever reason, all I could think of was this:

    Ralphie said:

With as much dignity as he could muster, the Old Man gathered up the sad remains of his shattered [ DD ]. Later that night, alone in the backyard, he buried it next to the garage. Now I could never be sure, but I thought that I heard the sound of "Taps" being played, gently

    looking forward to the resurrection...

there will be a resurrection. I was hoping she would last long enough for me to get the Ti back on the road.. almost to the day it seems

If I had a SAAB and it died, I would also suspect that my wife had something to do with its demise.

Sounds like a broken valve spring or keepers. Possible the timing chain guide wore down to metal. Hopefully the pistons are still intact.

I gave up on my SAAB 99s when they were 17 yeares old with over 220k on each. They were just too expensive to fix as good non leaking cylinder heads were impossible to find.

The problems began with the HG replacement I did in Feb. I ran great for about a month and then the slight tapping grew louder and louder until it got really loud last thursday.

I am thinking either a bent valve either let go, or the keepers as you say. The sound was definatly from cylinders 2 or 3 and from right about the valve area..
