Sorry Iggy, I guess you haven't been to Texas recently. The fact they build Tundras in Texas is heavily advertised. Granted, that's aimed more at Texans than Americans, but same thing.
People do talk about the quality of American vehicles as a result of their cost-cutting, but my experiences with my parents' BMW E46 and my girlfriends' VW New Beetle have been the worst of any, and my family used to be a Mopar family. My dad's Commander had a couple annoying problems, but nothing like his old E46. The last domestic they had before that was a Saturn VUE. I didn't really like the thing, but the quality was pretty good and it didn't have any problems. Can't say much about Toyota; they had a '91 Camry way back but I wasn't really paying attention to its maintenance record back then. The only cars they've had that they sold because they couldn't take the constant visits to the dealership were their '99 Grand Cherokee and '05 E46.
That has been my experience as well.
BMW and VW recently followed the same strategy that GM did some years ago - squeezing their suppliers to sell them cheaper parts.
The Grand Cherokee I had for a year wasn't anything special. Didn't drive particularly well and the ergonomics sucked. I could barely reach the radio when seated and belted in. Steering sucked. Suspension was terribly for road use - soft but couldn't handle pot holes and bumps very well.

Living in the south helped me understand southerners better(drivers, culture, awesome food), maybe living in Texas would be the same thing...

I've only been a shadetree mechanic for 45 years, so I don't understand everything I know, but my Chevy van has had its share of snafu's. The outside handle of the sliding door has broken and been replaced twice, there are 2 of the 4 hinged windows whose latches have come loose from their moorings (rivets pulled out of the frame 
) and this thing is a relic of 2001 GM engineering.
I DO like the ad, but only for the feeling of patriotism that it engenders. It so far has had no influence in me buying a Jeep anytime soon. Maybe I should give it time, though...
