    Taken from Here.

Crow Mountain Hill Climb serves up a challenging 1.85 mile uphill course with a 720 foot elevation change featuring 7 hairpin switchbacks nestled between a ¼ mile twisty drag race to the first turn, a ½ mile section with 3 separate “S” features, some 1/8 mile sprints, and a 6/10 mile high speed curved section with two blind left-handers. The course is fully lined with ditches, granite rock faces, and large trees which offer no margin for error. Most drivers say it was the fastest and scariest two minutes of their life.

    Sounds like fun.

I drove up that road in my Mini last fall. Not as part of the hillclimb, just as a club outing. It is a fun road.

    This was my favorite part.

The course is fully lined with ditches, granite rock faces, and large trees which offer no margin for error.

Basically, get it right or fail miserably and possibly painfully.

Don't want to be that guy, but lets not forget that 2 years ago there was a death at this event. The ad copy is really not just being sensationalistic, although if I remember correctly the thinking was that there was a medical issue that was the cause as he basically made no attempt to make the turn, but it does show that this event, like other hillclimbs (any any kind of motorsport) is a potentially dangerous undertaking.

he was the inventor of the cool suit, and yeah it's thought that he had some kind of heart problem before impact

I have done a few hillclimbs including the ones that mad_machine mentions in Reading (Duryea is this weekend by the way if anyone wants to come see it), but never Crow Mountain. Hillclimbing is a huge rush, but you have to know the danger involved (like any other motorsport) and drive within your limits. Occasionally you will go past them. Sometimes that means a good run ruined, a good car ruined, or much worse.

I like what the novice driving instructor says, "If you can't walk over to your car, set it on fire, and walk away without batting an eye, you shouldn't be talking about setting records." (Or something along those lines).

The Abomination in staging at Wolf Ridge is at 2:20. I gotta get back in the mountains. Crow Mountain HC is on my bucket list, once I can put some time/effort/$ into the Jensenator again.

Rich Shafer, the guy who died at Crow Mountain, appeared to have had a heart attack just before going off course, very similar to the guy who died in a LeMons race a few years back. They would both hate to think people would try to use their passing as a reason to shut down events like these.

I agree with that, and it wasn't my intent of bringing it up to say the event should not be run. I was just pointing out that the ad copy is not just hyperbole and that it really is a dangerous activity.

Yep, it's not just hyperbole, it's fun as h#$% even when you do have a boo-boo :) http://www.streetfire.net/video/hoser-racing-mp62-supercharged-96-miata-2006-cr_11... Yes, I specifically chose that song because it is a LONG way to the top!!!

I'll be back this year, possibly in my 4th different car The video is from my '96 M edition, MP62 supercharger, intercooled, RX-7 lsd, tons of goodies, just should have put the stickier tires on first This was my 2nd & 3rd runs up the mountain that year. The other SC Miata with 250+hp took 11 runs to match the time I had after my 2nd run, so I felt pretty good......until they reminded me his was still in unwrecked condition.

Even if you're not running the event, come out & join us. Hill Climb folks & Rally folks are 2 of the best groups of people to hang out with in my experience.
