    "sold as is for parts" Merc's parts are extremely expensive and can rack up a big bill fast. You could really end up in the hole with one before it's over.

    My train of thought: There's a reason it's $700.

    that is temptingly cheap....

    there are acouple of good mercedes forums that you might look at to research. parts and labor can sometimes be expensive but the cars do last for a ridiculously long time.

    I've seen one running around VIR with a carb'd 5.0 Ford, hood scoop, a 5 speed, and huge slicks.

    yawn ... the Cadillac Cimaron of German cars. ... even $700 for this example seems a bit too much.
