Toly wants to drive his Morgan 4/4. Anyone have a lead on an auto box that will mate to a Ford 116E engine?

EDIT: Removed post. You said Cortina in the title, I just can't read.

I speculated on very early Capris or Pintos.

The "Pinto" engined Capris used a Ford C-4 automatic, the 4 cylinder Capri II's used a C-3, but the Kent engined Capris (and Cortinas?) used a Borg-Warner automatic, if I remember correctly. I just know the Kent engined Fords did NOT use a Ford U.S. sourced automatic.

Actually, that was one reason why I bought an automatic Capri. The transmission is easier to find parts/get serviced, compared to a 4 speed manual.

Yeah, sounds like he needs the BorgWarner box. Somewhere there's one holding up a workbench.

If a Capri transmission will work, shoot an email to Norm at Team Blitz.

He would have one, for sure.

I'd bet real money its a BW35 trans. It was bolted behind a billion or so Volvo with B18 or B20 engines, so even if a guy could just find a bellhousing, the rest of the trans can't be too hard to find. Its only been 35 years since Volvo quit using them...

    Another idea:

He might try contacting my old pal, ~Phil Hunt~

Phil is a long time racer and is wheelchair-bound these days. But he runs a manual trans Golf in local track events these days. A neat guy!

I thought some early Federal Capri's used BW35's. Capri List on Yahoo (assuming it is still active) or Norm @ Team Blitz would be how I'd start searching for one.

I thought there was a C3 bellhousing for the Kent as well... maybe I am thinking T9.

Might as well drop in a SVT Zetec while you're at it...

    Quite active, actually!

    In reply to fast_eddie_72:

I figured it was, I dropped off of it a few years ago when it started to look like I'll never have a decent shop/garage to rebuild my '73 or to work over a "new" one. And it still looks like that will be the case for a long time...

You know, that's not too crazy, is it?

BUT... a well tuned auto that would fit onto that engine is a FWD box...

A more reasonable swap would be a 4 cyl ranger w/auto. Still quite stout engine, well tuned auto. (or S-10, Tacoma, etc).

    In reply to alfadriver:

The zetec in my garage bolts up nicely to my '72 2.0 liter Pinto 4 speed; why wouldn't an automatic work too?

I even have an automatic flywheel if you need it.

*From all of my research, the Kent, Xflow, Pinto, CVH, Zetec, SPI, and the earily Lima share a common bolt pattern.
