You can get a "nicely restored" series 1 Datsun 240z for about 8-15k. You can get a decent z33 350z for that same price range.... the choices..... I've never owned the new z, only the old ones (incredible machines). For a fun weekend car and occasional autox what do you pick and why?
Will you be modifying it for more power? If yes how much?
Driven both and they are two seperate worlds. The old Zs are like miatas, very knife edge and dont like a ton of power being put through them. The new ones are more like a mustang thats lighter and handles better.
I've owned a 370Z and 240Z, so I'd say it depends on what you want to do. If you want to use it like an everyday car, the newer one is obviously better. For a weekend car and autocrosser, I'd go 240 all day. You may not be the fastest, and they are a workout to drive, but the noise and fun alone would edge the 240 for the win, at least to me.
That's what I'm thinking. I've had my 240z's in the past and I'm now thinking I should test drive the 350 or the "ghetto35".
Wow, I didn’t know nicely restored 240Z’s were only 8-15K.
I’m sorry, I got distracted looking for my check book, what was your question again?
Z's have jumped up. Some guys got a black one on eBay for $70,000
To me, the choice is similar to a well done Alfa Spider/GTV vs a Miata.
I'll daily a Miata for decades, but I'd rather race the Alfa because.
And I and fully aware that to get an Alfa as fast as a stock Miata takes work. It's just so much more interesting to drive fast.
Two completely different cars. Do you enjoy the smell of raw gasoline? 240. Do you enjoy air conditioning? 350.
For me, it's not a choice between two cars, its a choice between two intentions.
