I picked up a gallon of Valspar low gloss tractor paint today, but before i crack it open, I was wondering if anyone knows if this is similar to a satin finish?

no.. its a low gloss finish like interior home paint.
Its not quite satin-y.

I painted my trailer with it and would considfer it flat. I'll try and post a picture of my trailer.

What should I use to thin it? I just have laquer thinner right now, also what is a good mixture?

I think I thinned it around 10% with acetone.

It will tell you on the label what to thin it with.

Yeah, I think the tractor paint can use acetone as a thinner, but Mineral Spirits (not "low odor") at 10-15% should work well too. I use Mineral Spirits and Rustoleum Professional on my Locost.

Did you spray or roll it? I know that those rustoleum-and-roller paint jobs I've read about seemed OK, but they took a LOT of work to look that good........

I sprayed mine.. and am right now in the middle of sanding it all off to do a proper paint job on my saab. No amount of rubbing it down would make it look decent and I found it to be "soft" even a year later. The smallest touch against the paint would chip it

Valspar recommends Naptha for thinning.

I sprayed mine with a $10 HF HVLP gun. It is tough paint, too. No problems with chipping and not soft.

naptha - they sell hardener too.
the low gloss black is very satin-y and looks awesome, i did the hood on my caprice wagon with it.

yeah the hardener makes it a lot more chip resistant.
I don't think the low gloss is that satiny compared to a flat or a satin. But I guess thats just me.
