I used to laugh my a$$ off at the wood panel turbo doge minivan running down camaros and the like long ago, but this monster running down all those cars is just plain killer...

I had a turbo voyager in high school with the "LX" package (white paint, gunmetal rocker trim, gunmetal mesh wheels, and dark red interior. Those 170 horses (if that?) were mean and that was one pimp ride....

I can easily believe if. I remember driving a rented Ford van that kept up with a 5.0 mustang out of a tollbooth until the fuel cut at 85mph

the specs are at the end of the video. Doesn't say what year, but its a Chevy Express AWD, stock 5.3L, stock truck heads, stock C5 cam, Turbonetics 88mm turbo and a stock 4l80e trans.

Likely a recent and loaded version considering that it has doors on both sides. The end credits also point out that it has a DVD player. Cool.

In another video, it shows the timeslip on the ZR1 race. 13.34@99 with a 1.92 60'. Poor guy in the ZR1 ran a 13.02@121 with a 2.47 60'.

They've been having fun with turbo'ed minivans for awhile. I haven't seen one of the big vans done up like that.

Apparently that track is hot as hell and fast cars run really crappy times there.

The only way to make this better is to be doing it with a van in full contractors livery. Roof rack, advertisements, and no windows.

A guy used to do that at my local 1/8 mile track almost 10 years ago. He had a mid 70's Chevy van with an aluminum headed 383 stroker and a nitrous setup. He used to terrorize people with that thing, ladders and all. I remember it going high 7's in the 1/8 on the bottle.

  • Sept. 15, 2009 11:43 a.m. 1320

I built the van, and am the driver in all the videos. It belongs to one of my best friends that lives literally down the street. Our daughters are friends also. They are 6 and 8.

He got the van with the intent of having me turbo it. He bought the van used, from a dealer cause they are pretty rare. He wanted doors on both sides, pewter, tow package, and AWD. I do mainly vettes, ta's, camaros etc...and custom turbo systems on about anything, but most of my work is on lsx engines. I also do sandrail chassis, lsx engine building, etc...

The van, is a 2004. It has a bb72 turbo, stock manifolds, to the turbo system exhuast. It has a dodge ram (98) cummins intercooler, c5 zo6 cam, 317 heads, mls head gasket, arp studs, 60 lb mototron injectors, and a speed density tune, a 4l80e and precision convertor. Besides , shocks a ss truck rear sway bar and some poly bushings thats about it.

The oem gears are in it, and with the tow package thats 3.73's. With the 4l80e each gear is basically exactly 50 mph. 50 to second gear, 100 is third, 150 is od. I havnt tested it to see if it will pull od any, I thought 150 in a van was fast enough.

I also have a 2003 awd conversion van, that I bought after using his a couple times to go out of town. I do triathlons, and it was cool to just toss everything in, and be able to rest after a race. I ve also launched boats with his, and its been to the sanddunes.

Mine is alittle heavier being a full conversion van, but I ve already rounded up a 4l80e, and I have lots of engine stuff, so to account for the weight difference, Im probably gonna run a 402-408 ci motor, that is otherwise the same. Ill probably go slightly bigger with the turbo, to a 76 or a s475.

The pewter one in the video drives better then stock, and I hate driving mine now.

Best part is no one would ever suspect a full-size van doing that.

How much would one of those tow?

  • Sept. 16, 2009 1:33 p.m. 1320 New Reader

The owner never really plans on more then a car on a trailer (5000-6000) but I tow a lot, and I d say it could probably tow 7-8000 but would require a quick retune.

It really is the best suv. And yea, no one ever suspects it, so unless your at the track or you happen to run twice, it always wins the first race on the street. No one gives it credit till its way way way too late.

I ll check into the readers rides.....I have a lot of cars though.
