My distributor cap is allowing water in when I drive through high water.

    How is this fixed?
    A. With a new cap with better gaskets or seals.
    B. Stop driving through water.
    C. Go overboard (pun intended) and replace more than what is necessary.

OK, you obviously know I'm going with choice C, so what are the best performance distributors? The application is a 1995 F-150 with a 302. Keep in mind I want to keep the price low, but I also want the best.

    What say you?

    1) Get some plumber's putty.
    2) Roll a small piece in your hands until it's a thin ribbon (1/16").
    3) Place ribbon in joint between cap and housing.
    4) Install rotor, then cap.
    5) Wipe away excess putty that squeezes out of the joint.
    6) Enjoy your waterproof distributor.

Go distributorless from a 5.0 from an Explorer.

I was considering something similar, but was also looking for an upgrade. Considering cashflow, this may be the direction I go. Good idea on how to do it, its better than anything I could have come up with.

Will this increase power? What did they have? Four coil pack? P71 coil on plug design? Two four coil packs?

Will this work with the stock ECU?

Strange as this sounds stay away from "Standard" ign Blue cap. I found when i ran the MSD on my old bronco that that cap would carbon track up and would crack from the heat. Had two caps crack while out on the trail in 4 low for a few hours. The cheaper no name caps lasted much longer and never cracked. As for water proofing you need some air to get in the cap to let out the Ionized gases. what you want to do it shroud it. Grab a old inner (m-cycle should fit nice) tube cut out a section slid it over the wires and cap.
They used to sell a thick rubber thing with snaps on it just for this but I've been out of the 4x4 scene for 15+ years

Ford used to have a thick rubber thing with snaps on every v-8 that came through the Lincoln Mercury dealer that I worked at . That was in the last century, 1987- 1990. I put one on my GTI and it worked very well.

Dwarf, is this like a cap shroud? Like putting a bell housing over a snorkel? Keep in mind, I'm not going off road often with this, in fact the four low button doesn't even work. Other than that, this water thang is the only issue I'm having.

Braden, I wish I knew more about what you speak of.

I just sent you an e-mail with a photo of one. I had problems in deep water with my 85GTI and this made it much better

Yes but if you can find the snap one like the pict that was sent use that it will solve your problem.

When I was ice racing my SAAB 96, I found a way to water proof it. First I took the cap with plug wires attached. Then I washed them in hot soapy water to remove any oily film. After throughly drying, I sprayed every thing with ignition spray. It sealed every thing. worked great. I had to remember to wipe off the plugs.
