What transmission code is it? I had the same problem on a manual trans 1992 VW a couple of nights back (020 family of transmissions). I ended up reading the Bentley manual, the engine needs to be at TDC. There is a mark on the flywheel for TDC. Try it and report back!

Should be an 02A (check the code right next to where the starter bolts up This might help http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=767717

    Only if it's a VR6. A 4cyl is going to have an 020.

"Broke" on the VW Vortex manual transmission forums has helped me in the past - you might try sending him a PM, or posting a thread there.

Edit - let me know how you make out with it - I have a "2Y" trans that I want to put an LSD in in the next couple of months.
