I don;t doubt that miliage. Who would want to spend any time behind the wheel of that? It has to be a new definition of slow and ill handling with all that weight up top.
I don;t doubt it would be great for camping.. and probably does well off the paved road.. but it has to be mess for trying to get anywhere even remotely in a hurry

Neat! Quibble with the ad, though:

So, is it working or does it need charged? Because if it's working, it doesn't need charged, and if it needs charged, it's not working. Oh, I can do this:
"Runs great. Just needs fixed in order to run!!!"

Well, an AC that cools but not enough could arguably be considered both. I wouldn't do so myself, but it's not a hard position to defend.

I just spent the last two weeks driving around Europe in VW's latest (California T5), and it is awesome. About 30-35 MPG with the diesel and you can cruise at 80+ on the highway. Which I assume is almost impossible in this one.

I had a couple of bay window buses (minus the high top).
It was the ultimate lack-of-momentum vehicle.
Heat is a fantasy in these, much less A/C.
I'd have another Westy in a heartbeat if I had the room.
They weren't called Vanagons until the subsequent generation. The campers were Westfalias and the passenger bus was officially called a 'station wagon' by VWoA.
