The new Garmin Catalyst claims to be much more than a lap timer and data collector. Instead, the all-in-one device promises to operate like a driving coach that you can stick to your windshield.

As great as that sounds, can it actually make you faster on track? We won't spoil the full review coming soon, but we will let you watch the Catalyst in action at the Florida International Rally and Motorsports Park.

If nothing else, the Garmin Catalyst at least gave our own J.G Pasterjak someone to talk to when he's driving on track. Presented by CRC Industries.

It was extremely enjoyable to watch this footage for the first time and hear J.G. talking back to the Garmin.

Yeah, seems like they bonded rather quickly.

Here I was expecting a human instructor to be talking to a driver giving realtime feedback.

Holy Understeer Batman!
To me it looks like following the advice wasn't really improving the lap time. Is this indeed what the video shows?

I totally was, actually. In fact we purposely went with a car with low limits and lots of slip angle that would be at 100% pretty easily, so we could better se the effects of the advice over a more exagerated timespan.

One of the main things she kept trying to get me to do was apex earlier in the long left hand sweeper. Every time I did I shaved time off that segment.

It seems to know what battles not to pick.

I nag at students about thus but at my last track day I had to shuffle the wheel in left handers due to my shoulder acting up.
